Princess Margaret Hospital

Net proceeds from The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer will benefit The Princess Margaret, a leader in the fight against cancer and the largest institution in Canada exclusively devoted to cancer treatment, research, and education. The funds you raise will support The Princess Margaret’s vision of Personalized Cancer Medicine a multi-faceted, integrated approach to cancer care that focuses on the unique nature of each patient: “Finding the right treatment for the right patient, at the right time.” Leading scientists like Dr. Brad Wouters, Dr. Neil Fleshner, & Dr. Fei-Fei Liu will put your fundraising dollars to immediate use in the conquest of cancer.

Funding will go towards high content clinical trials such as the world class tumor bank, an advanced molecular profiling laboratory, and a drug development program. The Princess Margaret is on the cutting edge of personalized cancer medicine, and is translating new understanding gained in the laboratory into more effective treatments for our patients. This will revolutionize cancer care for all cancers by providing “the right treatment for the right patient at the right time.

The Princess Margaret’s expertise and reputation as one of the world’s top 5 cancer research centres positions us to be leaders in the area of personalized cancer medicine. We are combining our expertise in many areas including cancer stem cells, epigenetics, molecular imaging, pathology, targeted drugs, immunotherapy, image-guided surgery and radiation and psychosocial oncology.

The impact is real at The Princess Margaret. Make yours now and be a part of this history-making event.

WHY is Princess Margaret Cancer Centre a world leader?

Your support is one reason. As the 10th year of the Ride approaches, we are reminded of the thousands and thousands of men and women, who just like you, got on their bike, trained, and fundraised, to ride for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The funds you and others have raised is one of the major reasons that Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world. Many of our eminent researchers would not be working at the cancer centre if not for the tremendous philanthropic support that comes from our riders, donors, volunteers and supporters.

We believe another big reason is the intense curiosity and tenacity of our scientists and clinician researchers who never stop asking WHY—as they work with each patient, with each tumor sample, and with each new therapy. While we can’t prove it scientifically yet, our theory is that our researchers have an extra ‘WHY gene’!

We all have WHY questions about cancer:
- WHY will 40 percent of Canadians be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime?
- WHY are some cancers responsive to treatment, while others are not?
- WHY do some types of cancer return after it appears they have been eradicated?

The research you are supporting is helping our scientists and clinicians to find the answers and translate these insights and discoveries into innovations in patient care for Canada and the world.

With the funds and the generosity of our community of supporters, we are now in the early days of delivering on our promise of Personalized Cancer Medicine.

In 2017, the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer is on June 10th and 11th. This is an EPIC 200+KM two day bike ride between Toronto and Niagara Falls taking you through some of Ontario’s most picturesque countryside. All you need is a bike, helmet and willingness to make a difference in our mission to conquer cancer in our lifetime the rest is taken care of for you.

In closing, WHY do cancer patients and their families and friends want to support the research taking place at The Princess Margaret? As our Creed states “We have the momentum. We have the talent. And we have the passion.” And we never stop asking WHY—because WHY is in our DNA.

Veteran Riders, I ask you to keep Riding. You know the impact you have made, but our battle is not over yet. First time Riders, get ready for a Ride that will change your life.

Now is the time for all of us to Ride together in this our 10th anniversary of the event.
