The home stretch of our BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE

In April 2012, The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation embarked on the largest single fundraising campaign in the history of Canadian healthcare. And this year, we completed the fourth year of the BILLION DOLLAR CHALLENGE—our five-year initiative to secure $1 billion to lead the way in Personalized Cancer Medicine at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.

We have raised $880 million, with $450 million coming from philanthropy and $430 million from grants secured by our internationally-respected research team. In fiscal 2016, we achieved a new record in our net fundraising with a total of $104 million. This includes $15.5 million raised through our Research Campaign which launched in 2015 to raise $50 million specifically for the five major pillars of our basic science research program.

In its most recent event, The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer came out strong again, raising over $17.3 million with 4,253 riders. We have shared this great event brand to benefit three other Canadian cancer foundations—B.C. Cancer Foundation, Alberta Cancer Foundation and Montreal’s Jewish General Hospital Foundation. In total, over 9 years, the Ride has raised $330 million for cancer research and care across the country.

Thanks to the cancer research enabled through these programs and your generosity, the landscape in cancer diagnosis and treatment is changing rapidly. The Tumor Immunotherapy Program led by Drs. Pamela Ohashi and Lillian Siu is an excellent example of how The Princess Margaret is leading the way in testing promising new approaches to cancer treatment by activating our immune system. The leaders of this program are highly regarded around the world, and they are working in collaboration with the top U.S. cancer centres. This is a key area of investment for our Research Campaign.

Please visit our website www.thepmcf.ca for further details on our immunotherapy program and other examples of how The Princess Margaret is outsmarting cancer thanks to your support. .
